Thoracic Oncology Program

This program provides expertise in the evaluation and management of patients with lung cancer, pulmonary nodules, and pulmonary problems in patients with other malignancies. There is special interest in the evaluation of patients with pulmonary disease following Hematopoeitic Stem Cell Transplantation. Also the program offers state-of-the-art bronchoscopic procedures including endobronchial ultrasonography (EBUS) and therapeutic interventions such as stents and argon plasma coagulation. The faculty are members of the Thoracic Oncology Multidisciplinary Team at Karmanos Cancer Center and work closely with oncologists, thoracic surgeons, radiation oncologists, radiologists and pathologists to provide comprehensive service to patients with cancer. The program runs outpatient clinics at the Wertz Cancer Center. The clinical research interests of the faculty are related to the interaction between COPD and lung cancer, pulmonary disease following Hematopoeitic Stem Cell Transplantation and critical care of the cancer patient.
